runonce.exe

runonce.exe – Here is the scoop on Run Once as it pertains to computer network security. The big question: what is runonce.exe and is it spyware, a trojan and if so, how do I get rid of Run Once?

runonce.exe (Run Once) – Details

The runonce.exe process is typically executed once your computer has rebooted, after installing a new piece of software. It allows for the installation process to continue after the reboot to make any final changes to the newly installed software. You should leave this process running to ensure that the software that you were installing is installed correctly.

runonce.exe is flagged as a system process and does not appear to be a security risk. However, removing Run Once may adversely impact your system.

Our process monitor database currently registers runonce.exe to Microsoft.

This is part of Microsoft Windows.

Im runnig windows 7 and noticed that runonce.exe was using half of the CPU and some applications started crashing and some setup files stopped responding. basically microsoft office google chrome Nokia pc suite were affected. I think it can modify setup files during copying process. after suspending the runonce.exe process i managed reinstall Office 2007.

I am having a very similar issue with Windows 7. I got a IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL bluescreen, followed by stop 0x000000A. Just after rebooting, Windows popped up with an error message saying the computer crashed due to some video related error. I thought surely my system was overheating. I applied more thermal paste and cranked up the fans, but then I could not even log in, as the logon screen was just black with a white mouse.

Fortunately, I had Windows Vista installed on a different hard drive in my machine, and I was able to scan for viruses (it would have explained my lazily-ignored inability to connect to Windows Updates). After finding a few backdoors/rootkits such as C:\Windows\system32\drivers\ksecpkg.sys (which happened to be essential, even in safe mode, rendering even THAT unusable).

I did my best to fix these problems and managed to get most deleted. But no good. So I popped in a 7 CD and attempted a useless and unsuccessful OSR. I finally had to roll back the registry which gave me the logon screen. However, after logging in, the screen went black again. I started up the task manager and looked for anything that didn’t normally start (runonce.exe) and ended the process. Boom. Windows loads up and I am using it in this current state, but color is limited to basic. I do not know what to do from here though…

My laptop has windows 7 and was running spotify…….. all of a sudden showed a blue screen. I am experienced with computer issues and this wasn’t a driver crash issue. Immediately after restart my spyware doctor firewall said that runonce.exe is trying to access the internet. I suspect that it is being used as spyware uses.
