im really upset –i have the 26 percent steam down load stop error(fresh install widows 7 and latest drivers)–steam makes 100s of millions and the lazy greedy bast#rds have known about this error for years –why hasn’t this been fixed?—im lazy but i might get a lawyer for this –they stole my money

To fix the Error that James has above (which I myself had) do this:

    • go to Start, Run, enter regedit and press enter
    • go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER expand that and find the “software” folder, expand that and find the “Valve” folder
    • on the “Valve” folder, right click and find permissions on the menu and click that. In the permissions box checkmark the “full control” box
    • in the “Valve” folder if you expand that you will find the “Steam” folder. Right click on that and do the same as in the bullet above

I basically did the same thing before I found these instructions from jvmenzi at youtube & it fixed the problem.

  5. Scared says:

@Ben, no. Games are tied to your account which is accessed through the Steam client. So as long as you log into the account that has the games registered to it then you can play them from anywhere.

  6. Ben says:

I just bought tf2 and i haven’t even played it yet. Steam is junk but if you reinstall steam wouldn’t that take away your games?

  7. J Rose says:

cannot reinstall Steam it starts to update then stops at 26% and gives the following:- Steam.exe delete failed ERROR: Steam.exe delete failed. win 32 Error 5.”Access is denied” It then closes.
I have tried it with “Run as an Administrator” and selective Start-up with firewall off. I have even deleted Skype. Nothing works and steampowered automated support is about as much good as a Chocolate fireguard and the games I have paid so much for are a complete waste of money. Out of the depths I cry “Help”

  8. Jack says:

What you should do is reinstall steam and restart your pc easy fixed. :)

  9. James says:
